Background for this topic.

Remote code execution (RCE) is the ability of an attacker to make a system run attacker-chosen code from a remote position, usually by exploiting a flaw in a network-facing application, service, protocol, or the processing of untrusted content. Unlike simple unauthorized access, successful RCE can run with the privileges of the affected process, enabling actions such as accessing data, changing configuration, disrupting a service, establishing persistence, or moving to other systems. Exploitability depends on factors including network reachability, authentication requirements, configuration, and whether execution is constrained.

Defenders should prioritize exposed RCE vulnerabilities in vulnerability management: inventory reachable assets, apply fixes or vendor mitigations, and restrict access or disable vulnerable functionality where patching is not immediately possible. Least privilege and service isolation limit the damage if exploitation succeeds. Secure input handling, safe deserialization, and avoiding unnecessary shell invocation reduce common attack paths. Monitoring for unusual process creation and outbound connections can support detection; suspected exploitation warrants prompt investigation, preservation of relevant logs, credential rotation where appropriate, and checks for persistence.

Attackers are exploiting the critical Adobe ColdFusion flaw CVE-2026-48282, which allows remote code execution on unpatched servers. Attackers have started exploiting CVE-2026-48282, a maximum-severity vulnerability in Adobe ColdFusion. The flaw is a path traversal issue that could result in arbitrary code execution without authentication. It affects ColdFusion 2025.9, 2023.20, and earlier versions, allowing remote attackers […]

Attackers are exploiting the critical CVE-2026-10520 flaw in Ivanti Sentry, compromising many internet-exposed gateways shortly after patches were released. Threat actors have started exploiting a maximum-severity OS command injection flaw in Ivanti Sentry, tracked as CVE-2026-10520, that allows remote code execution with root privileges. “An OS Command Injection vulnerability in Ivanti Sentry before the R10.5.2, R10.6.2 and R10.7.1 versions allows a remote […]

Threat actors are exploiting a critical FortiClient EMS flaw, tracked as CVE-2026-35616, to deploy malware on unpatched systems. Threat actors are exploiting a critical FortiClient EMS vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-35616 (CVSS score of 9.1), that allows remote code execution without authentication. Fortinet released fixes in April after confirming zero-day attacks in the wild and urged […]

A critical vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-45659, in Microsoft SharePoint can allow attackers to achieve remote code execution with little effort. Microsoft released security updates to patch a high-severity SharePoint vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-45659 (CVSS score of 8.8), that could allow remote code execution. The flaw does not require complex conditions for exploitation, making it a […]
